Four volumes, here referred only to Vol. 1 (1984) and 3 (1986), the latter one containing the literature cited in the other volumes. Collection of taxonomic data of all (at the time of editing) described African freshwater fishes, including anadromic and catadromic species, but no marine taxa. No species description or key, only data on taxonomy, distribution and literature on these topics as well as on anatomy, behaviour, electrophysiology, food habits, general physiology, growth, habitat, osteology, parasites, reproduction, size, as far as known to the authors, so not all the topics listed here are always referred to in a particular species. For the sake of simplicity only literature dealing with taxonomy is listed here, all other should be looked up in vol. 3, if published before 1984.
