Butterfly fishes
Monospecific: Pantodon buchholzi
Pantodon buchholzi 2 Peters, 1877, the butterfly fish, remains rather small, about 10 cm, and is characterised by a rather short, stout body with long, conspiciously shaped and strikingly transparent fins which are supposed to enable it to glide over the water. Restricted to the western tropical Africa: Lower Niger, Lake Chad, Cameroon, Gabon, Congo basin and Upper Zambezi where it lives in swampy regions and rather flat waters.
