Species overview
Small fish, body moderately short and deep, head shorter than body depth, slightly longer than deep, snout rounded, clearly protruding mouth which is clearly inferior; dorsal fin slightly longer than anal; caudal peduncle short, slender. Uniform brown or silvery, densely dotted black. Size observed: 121 mm SL 139 mm TL.

Taxonomic description
-Body moderately short, laterally compressed, moderately deep, body depth 27-35 % SL, greatest depth above pelvic fin.
-Head length 25-28 % SL; head depth 22-27 % SL, 74-86 % body depth.
-Outlines of back and belly slightly convex, upper profile of head strongly convex, underside of head concave, Bases of unpaired fins moderately steep running to caudal peduncle.
-Snout round, short, the tip slightly below centre of eye, 17-25 % head length, 30-42 % postorbital length, upper jaw on a level between base of pectoral fin and underside of head.
-Mouth 14-23 % head length, inferior, its edge below centre of eye.
-Chin inconspicuous.
-Teeth notched, 9-10/10-15.
-Nostrils separate, circular, both slightly below centre of eye, their axis running parallel to axis of head.
-Eye diameter 15-24 % head length, 23-44 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft curved, 26-39 % head length, 27-42 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 25-29 fin-rays, base of D 25-31 % SL, anal fin 25-28 rays, base of A 24-27 % SL, origin of D more or less opposite origin of A, end of D behind end of A; predorsal length 51-58 % SL, preanal length 54-59 % SL.
-Pectoral fin pointed, extending nearly to end of pelvic fin. V is closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin pointed, the scaled lobes obtusely pointed, nearly half as long as membranous portion. 60-68 scales in lateral line; 16 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 16-20 % SL, its depth 4-6 % SL, 21-32 % its length.
-Coloration »Uniform brown«; »Uniform brown, a little more yellowish on the belly; fins also uniform brown«; »Silvery, densely dotted black on head, back and belly«.
