Brienomyrus (Brienomyrus) cabrae (Boulenger, 1900)

Synonyms
Marcusenius cabrae sp. n. Boulenger, 1900f: 130, pl. 48, fig. 1,
Pollimyrus kingsleyae Taverne, 1971a: 105.
Brienomyrus kingsleyae Mamonekene and Teugels, 1993: 13, 14, partim,
Brienomyrus kingsleyae Teugels and Hopkins, 1998: 199-204, partim.

Remarks on taxonomy
Taverne (l.c.) placed the species together with B. kingsleyae into Pollimyrus but did not see that neither the position of the nostrils nor the general shape of the body do correspond to the characters of that genus but rather to the ones of Brienomyrus. Bigorne, 1990, 1990b too escaped the quite different body shapes of Brienomyrus kingsleyae, B. eburnuenis and B. cabrae compared to that of all other Pollimyrus species as well as the obviously different position of the nostrils. These features also have not been seen by both Mamonekene and Teugels (l.c.) and Teugels and Hopkins (l.c.). Furthermore B. cabrae is quite different from B. kingsleyae in shape and duration of its electric discharges.

Etymology
Dedicated to Major Cabra, »Commandant dans le Haut Congo«.
