Remark on taxonomy
The reinstatement of the generic name Cyphomyrus Myers, as suggested by Van der Bank and Kramer, 1996 proved needless because the other species the authors referred to actually belong to the genus Brienomyrus instead of Hippopotamyrus.

Etymology
(gr): discos, im: discus, disk, quoit; (gr): rhynchos: snout, trunk, -ensis: geographical origin or habitat; -anus: habitat or provincial origin.
