Remark on taxonomy
Revision of the characters of both taxa suggests that Marcusenius macrophthalmus (Pellegrin, 1924) is a synonym of Marcusenius greshoffi (Schilthuis, 1891). This in particular refers to the size and position of the eyes and the length of the base of the dorsal fin, which is longer than the base of the anal fin, rather exceptional within the genus Marcusenius.
