Etymology
Named after the type locality, Stanley-Falls, which got that name in honour of Sir Henry Morton Stanley, 1841-1904, British journalist and explorer who found the lost missionary David Livingstone in East Africa, and explored the course of the Congo (Zaïre) River and aided the Belgian king Leopold II in establishing the Congo State.
