Etymology
caschive, sometimes also cashive: from the Arabian common designations for mormyrids: »cashive« or »kishuve«, as reported by Hasselquist, also »kaschoué«.
geoffroy: dedicated to E. F. Geoffroy-Saint-Hilaire (1772-1844), French naturalist, professor at the Muséum national d’ Histoire naturelle, founder of the »Jardin des Plantes«; participated in the French Expedition to Egypt, in 1798-1799, where he made extensive collections of animals, not the least fishes. Returned to France only in 1804.
jubelini : dedicated to Jean-Guillaume Jubelin, »Contre-amiral. Gouverneur du Sénégal (1829)« who sent fishes of the Senegal to Paris.
longipinnis: (lat.): longus, a, um: long, wide; (lat.): pinna, ae: feather, fin; longirostris: (lat.): rostrum, i: trunk, beak, snout.
