Etymology
hasselquistii: in honour of Dr. Friederich Hasselquist (1722-1752), Swedish naturalist, scholar of Linnaeus, participant of the Danish Expedition to Egypt and Palestine, died at Smyrna; his notes were published by Linnaeus, 1757: Iter Palaestinum.
Agnus (lat.): sheep, because of similarity of the head of the fish with that of a sheep
guentheri: in honour of Albert Charles Lewis Gotthilf Günther (1830, Esslingen, Germany-1914, Kew/London). Since 1857 at the British Museum (Natural History), 1875-1895 "Curator of Zoology", Founder of the "Zoological Record"; president of the Linnean Society: member of numerous learned societies.
