kannume: Arabian name of the fish (Forskål, Lacepède); oxyrhynchus (gr): oxys: pointed, sharp, tapering, (gr): to rhynchos: snout, trunk; bachiqua and nacra: etymology not known; hildebrandti: dedicated to a friend of the describer.
