Remark on synonymy
Has been regarded as a synonym of Mormyrus longirsotris Peters, 1852. In the CLOFFA Mormyrus mucupe Peters, 1852 is listed as a synonym of Mormyrus longirostris Peters, 1852 according to Pappenheim 1907b: 37, who obviously overlooked that M. mucupe does not have suborbital tuberous organs, in contrast to M. longirostris. This justifies to separate the two taxa.
