Remark on Taxonomy
The position of mouth and nostrils as well as the ratio of length of dorsal and anal fin are typical for the genus Pollimyrus , as can be seen in the syntype BMNH 1919. 9. 10: 36. The other syntype, however, belongs into Hippopotamyrus, actually it is a specimen of Hippopotamyrus wilverthi.

Etymology
(gr): macros: large, long, size of animals or organs; (gr): ~ter, actually ~t~er: means the performance of the activity as indicated by the root-word; (lat.): ops: as second part of a word: eye, visual organ.
