Remark on taxonomy
The assumption of synonymy of M. cabrae with Brienomyrus kingsleyae (Boulenger, 1909a: 65) is not justified, not the least because of differences in the electric discharges of the two taxa, see table, figures and description of Brienomyrus cabrae.

Bigorne, 1990 distinguished between two subspecies, Pollimyrus kingsleyae kingsleyae and Pollimyrus kingsleyae eburnuensis which differ mainly in the number of teeth, 5-6/ 5-8 in P. k kingsleyae, and 7-8/7-8 in P. k. eburnuensis and in the fin-ray counts in D and A: P. k. kingsleyae D 17-18, A 22-25, P. k. eburnuensis D 15-17, A 20-22.
