Species overview
Medium-sized fish, moderately elongate, head bluntly tapering, convex; snout funnel-shaped, blunt, its end below level of eye, mouth slightly subterminal; no conspicuous epidermal sensory organs below the eye. Size observed: 188.5 mm SL, 218 mm TL.

Taxonomic description
-Body moderately elongate, laterally compressed, cross section oblong-oval, body depth 23 % SL, greatest depth at origin of dorsal fin.
-Head length 27 % SL, head depth 17 % SL, 76 % body depth.
-Outline of back (dorsal fin excluded), convex, upper profile of head up to the eye convex, upper side of snout feebly concave, underside of head concave, outline of belly slightly convex, base of anal fin ascending rather steeply to caudal peduncle.
-Snout funnel-shaped, blunt, slightly compressed, slightly bent down, 35 % head length, 71 % postorbital length.
-Mouth width 9 % head length, 25 % snout length, slightly subterminal, its edge far away from anterior nostril, edge of upper jaw on a level with midline of head.
-Chin with moderate submental swelling, lower jaw less deep than upper part of snout.
-Teeth notched, ?/? Nostrils separate, posterior nostril oval, on a level with lower rim of eye, anterior nostril above, at about middle of snout, axis of nostrils cutting axis of head at an angle of about 45°.
-Eye diameter 16 % head length, 31 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft curved, 33 % head length, 53 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 62 fin-rays, base of D 48 % SL, anal fin 18 rays, base of A 13 % SL, origin of D far before A, end of D far behind end A; predorsal length 41 % SL, preanal length 62 % SL.
-Pectoral fin pointed, extending to base of pelvic fin. V is slightly closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin large, obtusely pointed, scales on fin-lobes not visible in the only known specimen. 83 scales in lateral line; 18 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 12 % SL, its depth 6 % SL, 48 % its length.
