Pollimyrus macroterops (Boulenger, 1920)
Species overview
Small fish, body moderately deep, body profile evenly curved, head profile parabolic, mouth inferior, underneath eye, dorsal fin longer than anal, pectoral long, extending to tip of pelvic fin. Silvery, head and back speckled dark brown. Size observed: 85 mm SL.

Taxonomic description
-Body oval or parabolic in profile, body depth about 30 % SL, greatest depth above pelvic fin; head short, head length about 24 % SL, head depth 20 % SL, 86 % body depth; outline of back strongly convex from end of dorsal fin to snout, upper profile of head convex, underside of head concave.
-Snout round, rather pointed, about 20 % head length, 39 % postorbital length.
-Mouth inferior, as wide as diameter of eye, its edge below centre of eye, upper jaw on a level between base of pectoral fin and underside of head.
-Chin without swelling, inconspicuous.
-Teeth notched, 7/10.
-Nostrils separate, circular, both on a level a little above lower rim of eye, posterior nostril very close to its anterior rim; axis of nostrils cuts axis of head at an angle of less than 30°.
-Eye rather big, 24 % head length, 41 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft 36 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 30 rays, its base 32 % SL, anal 27-28, its base 22 % SL, D originating before origin of A, ending behind end of A. Predorsal length 58 % SL, preanal length 59 % SL.
-Pectoral fin pointed, extending to tip of pelvic fin; V closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin with short, obtuse scaled lobes and long, obtusely pointed membranous lobes. 70 scale in lateral line, 12 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 19-20 % SL, its depth 4-5 % SL, 23-24 % its length.
-Coloration Silvery, head and body finely speckled dark brown, the dots densely distributed on the head and on the back close to the dorsal fin.
