Species overview
Small fish, body moderately short and deep, head about as long as body depth, longer than deep, snout rounded, tip of snout below eye, feebly protruding mouth; caudal peduncle slender. Back olive brown, brighter below, countershaded, fins greyish.

Taxonomic description
-Body moderately short, strongly laterally compressed, body depth 28-32 % SL, greatest depth may vary in position between origin of anal to base of pectoral fin.
-Head length 27-31 % SL; head depth 19-29 % SL, 67-95 % body depth.
-Outline of back straight to convex, may even look like a hump, upper profile of head strongly convex, underside of head concave, outline of belly slightly convex, base of unpaired fins running moderately steep to caudal peduncle.
-Snout blunt, rounded, 16-21 % head length, 25-36 % postorbital length, upper jaw on a level between base of pectoral fin and underside of head.
-Mouth 15-21 % head length, slightly subterminal, its edge below anterior rim of lens.
-Chin inconspicuous.
-Teeth 8/8.
-Nostrils separate, circular, anterior nostril on a level with lower rim of lens, posterior nostril on a level with lower rim of eye and very close to it. Axis of nostrils cutting axis of head at an angle of about 30°.
-Eye diameter 15-20 % head length, 24-31 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft curved 23-32 % head length, 27-39 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 20 fin-rays, base of D 21-24 % SL, anal fin 25 rays, base of A 25-30 % SL, origin of D behind origin of A, end of D more or less opposite end of A; predorsal length 55-67 % SL, preanal length 50-60 % SL.
-Pectoral fin pointed, length, extending beyond tip of pelvic fin. V is closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin long, pointed, the scaled lobes obtusely pointed, about half as long as the of membranous part. 54 scales in lateral line; 16 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 17-25 % SL, its depth 5-6 % SL, 21-38 % its length.
-Coloration »Olive brown on the back, brighter below; dotted black; fins slightly blackish«, countershaded.
