Species overview
Small fish, body moderately elongate and deep, head slightly longer than body depth, much longer than deep, snout vertically truncate, hardly protruding mouth which is slightly subterminal; caudal peduncle short, deep. Brown above, whitish beneath.
Size observed: 96.5 mm SL, 111 mm TL.

Taxonomic description
-Body moderately elongate, laterally compressed, cross section oblong-oval, body depth 24-30 % SL, greatest depth near origin of anal fin or between pelvic and anal.
-Head length 28-32 % SL; head depth 17-25 % SL, 74-90 % body depth.
-Outline of back straight or feebly curved, upper profile of head straight, underside of head concave, outline of belly slightly convex.
-Snout truncate, 16-22 % head length, 27-35 % postorbital length.
-Mouth 13-22 % head length, slightly subterminal, its edge below posterior nostril, upper jaw on a level with lower edge of base of pectoral fin or slightly below.
-Chin inconspicuous.
-Teeth notched, 9/10.
-Nostrils clearly separate, posterior nostril oval, anterior on a level with lower rim of the lens, posterior nostril close to edge of mouth.
-Eye diameter 6-11 % head length, 10-16 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft S-shaped, 27-39 % head length, 38-55 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 17 fin-rays, base of D 18-24 % SL, anal fin 20 rays, base of A 22-27 % SL, origin of D behind origin of A, end of D more or less opposite end of A; predorsal length 60-65 % SL, preanal length 58-64 % SL.
-Pectoral fin obtusely pointed, extending to middle of pelvic fin. V is closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin obtusely pointed, the scaled lobes rounded, extending over 1/3 of the fin. 48-50 scales in lateral line, only 28-30 with pores; 12 scales round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 15-18% SL, its depth 5-7 % SL, 33-46 % its length.
-Coloration »Brown above, whitish below; fins colourless«.
