Species overview
Small fish, body elongate, rather slim, head longer than body depth and head depth; snout truncate, short, not protruding mouth which is slightly subterminal; caudal peduncle short, deep. Body and fins blackish. Size observed: 75.5 mm SL, 87 mm TL.

Taxonomic description
-Body quite elongate, laterally compressed, cross section oblong-oval, body depth 21-26 % SL, greatest depth at middle of body.
-Head length 29-32 % SL; head depth 17-25 % SL, 75-100 % body depth.
-Outline of back and belly rather straight, upper profile of head feebly convex or feebly concave, underside of head slightly concave.
-Snout truncate, 14-17 % head length, 21-29 % postorbital length.
-Mouth width 11-18 % head length, slightly subterminal, its edge about halfway the distance between end of snout and eye, upper jaw on a level with lower edge origin of pectoral fin.
-Chin inconspicuous.
-Teeth notched, 7/8.
-Nostrils clearly separate, posterior nostril oval, anterior on a level with lower rim of eye, posterior nostril close to edge of mouth.
-Eye diameter 10-14 % head length, 14-24 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft curved, 31-41 % head length, 48-71 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 16-19 fin-rays, base of D 21-26 % SL, anal fin 21-23 rays, base of A 23-28 % SL, origin of D slightly behind origin of A, end of D opposite to end of A; predorsal length 62-67 % SL, preanal length 58-63 % SL.
-Pectoral fin obtusely pointed, extending to middle of pelvic fin. V is closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin obtusely pointed, the scaled lobes rounded, extending over about 1/4 the length of the fin. 44-50 scales in lateral line, only 22-30 with pores; 12-14 scales round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 11-17 % SL, its depth 5-7 % SL, 32-55 % its length.
-Coloration »Entirely and uniform blackish, fins included«.
