Species overview
Medium sized fish with rather bulky head and body, head truncate snouted, caudal peduncle short, pectoral and caudal rounded. Dark brown with even darker band between dorsal and anal fins. Size observed: 139 mm SL.

Taxonomic description
-Body quite stocky, laterally compressed, cross section oval, body depth 23-25 % SL, greatest depth between pelvic and anal fin.
-Head length 26-29 % SL, head depth 19-21 % SL, 79-92 % body depth.
-Outline of back more or less straight, upper profile of head convex, sloping to the blunt tip of the snout, underside of head concave outline of belly slightly convex.
-Snout truncate, protruding mouth, 18-28 % head length, 27-44 % postorbital length; mouth small, subtermial, its edge below posterior nostril, upper jaw on a level with lower edge of opercular cleft.
-Chin with submental swelling.
-Teeth 6-9/8-10.
-Nostrils circular, anterior nostril at or below centre of eye, close to tip of snout, posterior on level with lower rim of eye. Axis of nostrils cutting axis of head at an angle of about 30°.
-Eye small, 11-16 % head length, 18-26% postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft 26-34 % head length, 35-46 % head depth, Dorsal 17-20 rays, base of D 15-22 % SL, anal fin 22-23 rays, base of A 18-22 % SL; D originating behind origin of A, ending before end of A. Predorsal length 60-64 % SL, preanal length 59-62 % SL Pectoral fin rounded, 13-21 % SL, originating opposite the middle of opercular cleft, extending to the base of pelvic fin. V closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin with large scaled lobes, which are longer than the membrane, both portions are rounded. 70-77 scales in lateral line, 20-22 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 19 25 % SL, its depth 6-9% SL, 27-48 % its length.
-Coloration »Dark brown, slightly lighter below but with a darker band between the origin of the unpaired fins.
