Species overview
Small fish, body moderately elongate and deep, head uneven blunt-snouted, snout rounded; a dark vertical bar between origins of dorsal and anal fin. Size observed: 118 mm SL.

Taxonomic description
-Body moderately elongate laterally compressed, moderately deep, body depth 23-27 % SL, greatest depth between anal and pelvic fins.
-Head length 23-26 % SL, head depth 18-20 % SL, 73-85 % body depth.
-Outline of back slightly convex, upper profile of head convex, underside of head concave, outline of belly convex.
-Snout blunt, rounded, 18-24 % head length, 28-38 % postorbital length.
-Mouth 13-22 % head length, 80-100 % snout length, terminal, its edge below posterior nostril, upper jaw on a level with lower rim of eye.
-Chin with rather small globular swelling.
-Teeth notched, 5/6.
-Nostrils separate, circular, anterior nostril on a level with centre of eye, posterior little below, axis of nostrils cuts axis of head at an angle of about 45°.
-Eye moderately large, its diameter 13-18 % head length, 22-28 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft curved, 32-40 % head length, 40-40 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 20 fin-rays, base of D 17-20 % SL, anal fin 28 rays, base of A 22-25 % SL, D originating behind origin of A, ending before end of A; predorsal length 60-65 % SL, preanal length 56-64 % SL.
-Pectoral fin obtusely pointed, length, extending to middle of pelvic fin. V is closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin obtusely pointed, scaled lobe round, covering a little more than half of it. 55-59 scales in lateral line; 12 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 15-20 % SL, its depth 5-8 % SL, 28-52 % its length.
-Coloration Uniform brownish, darker on the head, a wide black bar between origins of D and A, continuing on anterior rays of both fins, all fins greyish
