Species overview
Small-sized fish, body moderately elongate and deep, head uneven blunt-snouted, back more or less straight; uniform brownish with greyish fins and a dark bar between origins of unpaired fins. Size observed: 128 mm SL.

Taxonomic description
-Body moderately elongate, laterally compressed, moderately deep, body depth 25-28 % SL, greatest depth above pelvic fin.
-Head length 25-29 % SL, head depth 17-22 % SL, 65-87 % body depth.
-Outline of back more or less straight, upper profile of head convex, underside of head concave; outline of belly slightly convex.
-Snout obtusely pointed, 20-29 % head length, 32-50 % postorbital length.
-Mouth wide, 14-21 % head length, terminal, its edge below posterior nostril, upper jaw on a level with upper edge base of pectoral fin.
-Chin with thick globular swelling, directed forward-downward.
-Teeth notched, 5/6.
-Nostrils separate, circular, more apart from each other than from eye, midway between eye and front; anterior nostril on a level with upper rim of lens, posterior nostril on a level with lower rim of lens. Axis of nostrils cuts axis of head at an angle of about 60°.
-Eye diameter 13-19 % head length, 21-30 % postorbital length, 38-66 % snout length.
-Opercular cleft curved, 30-36 % head length, 36-52 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 20-23 fin-rays, base of D 17-21 % SL, anal fin 26-30 rays, base of A 20-31 % SL, D originating behind origin of A, end of D before end A; predorsal length 64-66 % SL, preanal length 59-62 % SL.
-Pectoral fin obtusely pointed, extending beyond base of pelvic fin. V is closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin pointed, scaled lobes obtusely pointed, nearly half as long as entire fin. 51-61 scales in lateral line; 8 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 16-18 % SL, its depth 5-7 % SL, 30-40 % its length.
-Coloration Uniform brownish, fins greyish, a blackish band between origins of D and A, continuing on the first rays of the unpaired fins; 4-5, sometimes 3 lateral line scales in the dark band.
