Larger fish, body elongate, moderately deep, tapering to tail, head moderately tapering, blunt, upper profile of head convex; coloration dark.

Taxonomic description
-Body elongate, moderately laterally compressed, cross section oval, body depth 17 % SL, greatest depth between pectoral and pelvic fin.
-Head length 23 % SL, head depth 14 % SL, 82 % body depth.
-Outlines of back and belly more or less straight, upper profile of head convex; underside of head concave.
-Snout rounded, slightly protruding mouth, 23 % head length, 31 % postorbital length.
-Mouth 21 % head length, subterminal, its edge below posterior nostril, upper jaw on a level with lower edge base of pectoral fin.
-Chin with moderate submental swelling, lower jaw less deep than upper part of snout.
-Teeth truncate 16/18, in closed lines.
-Nostrils separate, posterior nostril oblong, both nostrils on a level with lower rim of eye, their axis running parallel to axis of head.
-Eye diameter 6 % head length, 8 % postorbital length.
-Opercular cleft slightly curved, 34 % head length, 57 % head depth.
-Dorsal fin 30 fin-rays, base of D 25 % SL, anal fin 45 rays, base of A 33 % SL, origin of D well behind origin of A, end of D before end of A; predorsal length 66 % SL, preanal length 59 % SL.
