Species overview
Small fish, body moderately short, deep, head somewhat longer than deep, snout with concavity between tip and upper jaw. Mouth inferior. Particular aggregations of cutaneous sensory organs not indicated. Dorsal, anal and caudal fin with dark markings.
Size observed: 130 mm SL.

Taxonomic description
-Body moderately short, strongly laterally compressed, body depth 26-36 % SL, greatest depth at origin of unpaired fins.
-Head length 22-32 % SL; head depth not indicated.
-Outline of back and of belly slightly convex, profile of head convex with a concavity between tip of snout and upper jaw, underside of head convex. Bases of unpaired fins running moderately steep to caudal peduncle.
-Snout moderate, 14-20 % head length.
-Mouth size not indicated, inferior, its edge below anterior rim of eye, upper jaw on a level with upper edge base of pectoral fin.
-Chin inconspicuous.
-Teeth notched, 8-16/14-26.
-Nostrils closely together, upright-oval, on a level with lower rim of eye.
-Eye big, diameter 25-35 % head length. Presence or absence of particular aggregations of electrorecpetors on the head not indicated.
-Opercular cleft strongly curved, length not indicated.
-Dorsal fin 27-32 fin-rays, base of D 22-25 % SL, anal fin 32-37 rays, base of A 26-30 % SL, origin of D more or less opposite origin of A, end of D well before end of A; predorsal length 58-63 % SL, preanal length 54-58 % SL.
-Pectoral fin pointed, extending to middle of pelvic fin. V is closer to P than to A.
-Caudal fin pointed, scaled part short. 38-44 scales in lateral line; 12 round caudal peduncle.
-Caudal peduncle 16-20 % SL, its depth 4-6 % SL, 25-31 % its length. (Data based on original description).
-Coloration Generally rather dark, with violet shines. First rays of dorsal and anal fin with black markings; upper and lower most rays of the caudal fin as well as its base also blackish«.
